This year ended just the way I started it! In a new country, traveling. Our destination this year was Switzerland. What better place to begin the new year but in a country of peace. Geneva is such a beautiful little town that you can pretty much visit by foot.
Where to Stay
We stayed at the beautiful Hôtel Royal. This hotel is located near the city center and right next to the train station. We had our New Years Eve dinner in the hotels restaurant and it was absolutely delicious! I had a mushroom risotto that I have to admit was better than the one I had in Italy 2 years ago. Our hotel room had a kitchen so we were able to prepare our own breakfast on the 1st of January since everything was closed for the holiday.
Things to Do
Have you ever played giant chess in the park? Well in Parc des Bastions you can, even if it's 28 degrees outside you'll see this park filled with people playing chess and checkers. Some play against friends others against strangers and it's super fun! Not only is it a great way to have fun but also to meet new people as well.
Have a nice affordable cup of coffee with a delicious dessert at Martel Chocolatier depuis 1818. Geneva in general is an expensive city, I say this because the cheapest cup of Starbucks was about $8 dollars.
What to see
Visit the United Nations, this giant broken chair is right in front of it. The entrance is filled with flags from different countries all around the world together as one. It's quite beautiful actually it may not seem like much but seeing so many different countries together in one place is astonishing to me.
Check out St. Pierre Cathedral, each church in Europe has its uniqueness. You can go up the north tower of the cathedral to get a beautiful view of the whole city in Geneva, however, check the weather because unfortunately for us we weren't able to see it because it was too foggy outside.
Eat LOTS of chocolate! I mean a lot and buy some to go as well hahah I personally love chocolate and before my trip I heard that Swiss chocolate was absolutely the best! Well I confirmed that after I bought chocolate for my family but I ended up eating half of it before leaving Switzerland so if you think you bought enough buy just a little bit more.
We wish you guys a Happy New Year filled with many adventures!
